Aerial in dance and other art forms

The term aerial is also used to describe a dance move when doing the Lindy Hop dance. It is the moment when a dancers feet leave the floor. The first Lindy Hop aerial was performed by Frankie Manning in 1935.

Aerial moves are also seen in gymnastics and martial arts. It is a cartwheel that is carried out without placing the hands on the ground.

The aerial twist is a move that involves a 180 degree turn whilst air bound and is commonly used in gymnastics and dance fields.
