The term aerial conjures up a lot of images but obviously we normally think of something air bound (rather than the little mermaid!).
Aerial photography was discovered first in France and played a part in military situations in the First World War. It is now used extensively, whether for a pleasure of interest point of view (such as a picture of your home), for advertising, planning or environmental reasons to name just a few. It can be carried out by many air bound crafts, including planes, hot air balloons, helicopters, skydivers or even kites.
Sockets are electrical items that have a plug slotted into them in order to power an implement. The socket is usually thought of as female and the plug as the male.
Dry socket is an alternative use of the term and refers to a rather painful dental condition that occurs most commonly after the removal of lower wisdom teeth. It is more common in women than men but actually only 5 - 10% of cases are true dry socket rather than just post-operative pain.
